Stitching with variegated thread...
try it once and you are hooked!

Variegated threads add excitement to your work, and not just visual excitement either! Wonderful color choices abound and the usage applications are endless. You also have the added pleasure of having no idea what the final piece will look like, until it is completed.

As you become more experienced you learn to manipulate the placement of your stitches to create the most pleasing color balance, and also to change the direction of your stitches for visual effect. Working in a horizontal direction creates a different color shift than working stitches in a vertical sequence.

Most threads will provide an irregular stripe effect if stitched uniformly, this is seldom a problem though, as few designs provide conditions for uniformity.

Variegated threads can have very subtle color changes, or very dramatic changes. The subtle color shifts are the easiest to work with at first - they also have the widest application. Try stitching a tree trunk in a brown thread with gentle color variations and you'll be amazed at the naturalistic effect you achieve with no effort at all. Even the simplest design suddenly looks complex and you don't have to tell your friends that your incredible abilities are courtesy of the thread you use!

Important note!
When using variegated threads such as Wildflowers by Caron, always complete each cross as you go. This thread is suitable for 14-count fabric, as well as smaller counts stitched over two threads. You will use one strand of the thread for full crosses. Give variegated threads a try—and a whole new world will open up for you.

Here's to beautiful stitching!
